May 19, 1919
Following the St. Louis Caucus of May 8-10, 1919, 71 eligible members of the American Legion met at the Hotel Marion in Little Rock and unanimously passed a resolution “to make application to the proper authorities of the American Legion for a charter for the Little Rock Post of the American Legion”. Also at this meeting, Tom Poe was elected Temporary Chairman and F. Herman Voss was elected Temporary Secretary.
June 4, 1919
Members of the proposed Little Rock Post of the American Legion met at the Elks Club, 403 Scott Street in Little Rock, and adopted its Constitution and By-Laws.
July 3, 1919
An Application for Post of the American Legion is submitted by Tom Poe to J. J. Harrison, State Chairman of the American Legion, State of Arkansas. It is noted that the name selected for the post was listed as Melchior F. Eberts rather than Melchior M. Eberts. This is believed to have been a typing error.
August 4, 1919
At 8:00 p.m., Members of the Post No.1 met at the Elks Club to elect officers and discuss plans for a membership drive. The post reports almost 200 members at this point with expectations of 2,000 members before the time of the state convention in October.
August 3, 1920
Post No. 1 submits a Post Application for Permanent Charter. The post name and address was corrected at this time to Melchior M. Eberts, Post No. 1, 117 N. Spring, Little Rock. This document also reports 801 members.
November 10, 1964
A Petition was filed by Harrison Long, Commander, and Will J. Smith, Post Adjutant, and an Order issued in Pulaski County Circuit Court amending the Constitution and By-Laws of Post No. 1.
Post No. 1 relocates to 315 West Capital Avenue, Little Rock.
Deceber 21, 1970
R. L. Tatum, Post Commander, submitted a letter to the American Legion authorizing it to “include it in its application to the Department of Internal Revenue for a group exemption letter so that this post may be exempt from paying Federal Income Tax under the provision of Section 501 (c) (4) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954, as amended.”

A Petition was filed by William E. Kell, Commander, and Edward L. Braun, Post Adjutant, and an Order issued in Pulaski County Circuit Court amending the Constitution and By-Laws of Post No. 1.
May 11, 1987
A Certificate of Incorporation of Domestic Non-Profit Corporation was issued by W. J. “Bill” McCuen, Secretary of State, to “M. M. Eberts, Post No. 1 – The American Legion”.
